It’s never too late to begin breaking boundaries: inspiring people who show dreams have no limits how limitless the sky is.
I’ve often heard people say that dreams belong to the young, that when you’re “standing on the other side of life’s slope,” pursuing your passions becomes a luxury. But I’m here to tell you—absolutely not! Breaking boundaries have no limits.
Through various studies, it’s show that American life expectancies have stretched out more in the recent decade. What’s more, one of those studies reported that only 7% of people were working their dream career while 54% were overall happy with their jobs.
What does this all mean?
With longer life expectancies, we have more time to life enriching lives. With stability and money to come, investment in ourselves is equally as important as working our dream career.
For myself, I’ve always wanted a stable career and a family. My own hobbies and bucket list ideas have been put to the side because I wanted to have stability first. Now that I have that, I started wondering why I was putting of my dreams of travelling the world.
There are so many individuals in their 60s, 70s, and even beyond, who reignite that spark and chase their dreams with the same fiery passion they had in their youth. I’ve come across countless stories that serve as reminders that age is nothing but a number, and I’d love to share some of them with you. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll inspire you too.
Can I Still Chase My Dreams on Life’s Slopes?
I always think back Brazilian lyricist and novelist, Paulo Coelho’s words: “Everyone has the ability, at any moment in their life, to do what they dream of.” It hits home because there’s no expiration date on ambition. There’s no age limit on setting new goals, dreaming bigger, and going after what truly matters. If anything, the biggest regret we carry through life isn’t in failing, but in the roads we didn’t take.
For myself, I think it came to me realizing that I no longer looked like how I did in my early teens or early twenties. For most women, I think it’s hard to separate our past selves from our futures – especially when considering the way we physically changed.
In my head, it’s always the thought of “I should’ve done these things when I was younger.” Really – it was all invalid excuses because I knew that deep down, I could also do them now.
And that’s exactly the mindset that pushed me to chase my childhood dreams now as an adult with stable income and a mother to two children.
From one 2021 study, 7% of American reported that they knocked off one item from their childhood bucket-list, while 78% reportedly didn’t.
We often miss out on the greatest opportunities because we hesitate. Life will never wait for us. We must chase after it – even our goals and dreams, especially when it comes to breaking boundaries: inspiring people who show dreams have no limits.
Now that we understand the important of having the right mindset, let’s get into how our past selves don’t define who we are in our present timeline.
Who I Was Doesn’t Define Who I Am Now
When I look back, I realize that failure in my younger years doesn’t have to follow me forever. With time, I’ve gained so much—knowledge, skills, experiences, and relationships. It all adds up, promising a different and, in many ways, more rewarding journey ahead.
According to a study from the National Library of Medicine, experiencing failure actually facilitates self-improvement. We tend to make more mistakes and miss our goals when we’re younger—not because we lack intelligence, but because we haven’t failed enough to fully learn from those experiences.
Failure is often seen as a negative mark on someone’s timeline. But in truth, it’s a necessary part of growth. It pushes us to reflect, adapt, and evolve into better versions of ourselves.
When I was younger, I believed that trivial things—like academic grades—were the key to success. As a new college student, it was hard to see beyond the world of classrooms and assignments. Over time, I realized that while grades have their place, they aren’t the full story. The skills you hone and the connections you build often matter more in bringing you closer to your dream career and the life you envision than any letter on a transcript.
What I’ve learned and what I want to stress is that without failure, we wouldn’t truly understand what success means—or appreciate it when it comes.
When looking back on your past self, don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed. Instead, look at those memories with a lens that seeks understanding and empathy of how far you’ve come.
Now that we understand the importance of looking at our past selves with a different perspective, let’s discuss what it means to take on opportunities regardless of your age.
Opportunities Don’t Discriminate Against Age

It’s no surprised that the world we live in has changed evolves with time- thanks to advancements in science and technology. While stereotypes about age still exist, they’re starting to soften.
According to an article from the American Psychological Association, ‘ageism’ comments that come from all generations are rooted in falsehood. In fact, scientists prove the opposite can be true – such as how older folks can become more generative and creative with age.
More than ever now, people of all ages are finding more opportunities and support systems to go after their dreams. Isn’t that empowering?
From a post on the Huffpost, a contributor discusses her experience of building a bucket-list and tackling all the while being at the age of having grandchildren. For her, she “hope to experience some offbeat stuff that I think will make my heart happy” – which is exactly what a bucket-list should be like for everyone.
For myself, I wanted to do all the things I enjoyed doing on certain days without having to second-guess myself because I became a ‘mom.’ I know a lot of people may develop similar mindsets, but remember – this is your first time living too.
Give yourself grace and empathy.
Now that we know that age shouldn’t be a factor that should limit your actions and choices, let’s get into the importance of living your dreams throughout your entire lifetime.
Living My Dreams, No Matter My Age

There are so many stories of people well into their 50s, 60s, 70s, and even 80s who are still chasing their dreams—and living them. And why shouldn’t I be one of them?
Living life and doing things were they don’t seem common at certain ages, such as traveling the world at 80 may seem ‘eccentric,’ but have you ever stopped to wonder why we think like that?
‘Eccentric’ is defined as doing unconventional things – and sometimes – people pair the word unconventional with age related hobbies. While people of certain ages may share common hobbies, that doesn’t mean there’s no room to be open to other hobbies.
Watching the movie “Up” with my kids made me realize that the movie is the epitome of this discussion topic: hobbies that you developed when you were young don’t have to die out as you age. Age doesn’t limit your hobby options either.
It’s so important to keep ourselves in motion regardless of it’s finding new puzzle games or physical activities as we age because it keeps us healthy. I learned to be open and stay curious about trying new hobbies because all hobbies are rewarding in their own way.
The point I’m making here is, age shouldn’t limit your hobbies. Instead, it should motivate you to try out more hobbies than ever before. If you’re interested in starting big hobbies, here’s a great example of someone who defied the norms and made it big – coming up!

Starting a Business at 65? Yes, Please!

Take Colonel Harland Sanders, the “father” of KFC, for example. He went through a lifetime of challenges, failures, and setbacks before starting his fried chicken business at the age of 65. His recipe was rejected 1,009 times before it finally took off, and by 88, he was a millionaire.
My point is – his story reminds me that with perseverance, dedication, and hard work, success can come at any stage of life.
In this modern era, age doesn’t define success. Your own interests and efforts create that change.
Another modern day success stories can be found in your own hometown. Some of your beloved eateries could’ve been founded by love and a tale of immigration – meaning that not all delicious gemstones have been there for generations.
I’ve known a story of an immigrant couple who decided to open up their own pho restaurant in America after having a daughter. They were in their late 30s, tending to a daughter, and investing in their own shop. Now, they have chains throughout Northern California.
Remember, success doesn’t come easily. It takes perseverance. Age should never be a limitation to your passions and curiosities.
While we’re on the topic of how you can do anything you set your mind to regardless of your age, let’s dive into how taking on adventures doesn’t have to be only within your country.
Traveling the World at 78? Why Not!
Then there’s Heidi Hetzer, a 78-year-old German woman who decided that life still had plenty of adventure to offer. She traveled around the world in an old car, setting her sights on all five continents. From China to Canada, through deserts and freezing lands, Heidi’s journey is proof that there’s no age limit on exploring the world—or myself.
Women empowerment has been all the rage but so it breaking boundaries: inspiring people who show dreams have no limits – which is what I’m here to do.
As we age, we can be susceptible to more health problems, which is why we should try our best to eat, sleep, and listen to our body’s needs. What this shouldn’t mean is that our dreams are impossible to reach now.
Think about it this way: if you set aside a little bit of money each day, you will end up with a more than satisfactory amount by the end of this year and so on. Investing in yourself, even if it’s a dollar a day is better than nothing.
Finding ways to see the world can keep you feeling young and your body in great shape. Find alternative methods of travelling if walking can be too strenuous. There are always methods to get around – trust me.
However, if you’re looking for a hobby that’s more ‘with the times’ look no further than trying your hand at programming. Let’s get into it in the following section!
83 and Still Programming? Absolutely!

And how can I forget Ms. Masako Wakamiya, an 83-year-old Japanese woman who, at 60, taught herself to use a computer. In 2017, she launched her first mobile app, a game for older adults. Her story is a reminder that it’s never too late to learn something new and that even in the later years of life, we can still find ways to innovate and create.
Unlike most hobbies that have general set skillsets and a sheet of instructions, programming is one of those hobbies that will keep you on your toes. There are always continuous updates and new ways to program.
If you like puzzle games but like slight adjustments every once in a while to keep things interesting, programming might be the perfect way to keep your cognitive abilities in tune and your hands dancing away on the keyboard.
If you like being social without having to leave the comfort of your chair, programming with other people online can be a great to socialize as well – yes, your age does not matter here either. Crazy right?
If you’re still having doubts about why and how you can get started on conquering those boundaries, let me express to you my experiences in depth in this next section. I want everyone to be curious about what boundaries they have and why they should start breaking it. I want this to be a continuous topic, not a taboo one that’s restricted by age anymore.
Now that we are at the end of my secrets on the ways I broke my own boundaries and age-defying stereotypes, let’s take a short walk down the recap road.
